SWEEEP Kuusakoski and Nulife Glass have teamed up on a new processing system to recover lead from CRT glass.

The new glass furnace is the product of over a decade of technological innovation and design by Nulife founder Simon Greer, which included a pilot prototype version installed at the company's Manchester, England facility. The latest version of the system was installed at SWEEEP Kuusakoski's Sittingbourne, England recycling facility last July at a cost of approximately $3.2 million.

CRT glass may be heading to California landfills — legally. The California Department of Toxic Substances Control has issued an emergency regulation that will allow recycling firms in the state to send some of their CRT glass material to approved landfills.

Intercon Solutions, the e-scrap processor denied e-Stewards certification almost a year ago amid allegations of improper export of materials, has filed a suit against the Basel Action Network for defamation.

The complaint names both BAN and its executive director, Jim Puckett, and says the Seattle-based non-profit organization “unlawfully placed the company in a false light” when it alleged Intercon Solutions knowingly shipped hazardous waste to China.

E-scrap recycling company Regency Technologies has partnered with Dlubak Glass Company, a processor of scrap TV and PC monitors, on a joint operation that will recycle CRT glass.

Under the agreement, Regency Technologies will open a new location in Upper Sandusky, Ohio adjacent to Dlubak Glass. The companies are hoping that the arrangement will allow them to completely breakdown, dismantle and recycle devices containing CRT glass. Regency Technologies will dismantle the devices and send glass to Dlubak, which will process the material using a furnace.

Two executives of a Colorado electronics recycling firm were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to allegations that it illegally exported over 100,000 end-of-life CRTs overseas. Closed Loop Refining & Recovery has completed Phase One of a new CRT glass processing expansion at its 120,000-square-foot facility in Phoenix, Arizona. The facility is equipped to process upwards of 3,000 tons of CRT glass per month and includes both CRT separation and glass processing. Closed Loop is scheduled to complete Phase Two of the roll-out in early 2011, which will include the company’s proprietary lead extraction technology.
